On Friday March 24th, our Diversity club held a TIE-DYEversity event in hopes to bring our school community closer together. Earlier this year, we created snowflakes to show that we all come from the same composition, but all have different individualities and backgrounds. There wasn’t a single snowflake that looked the same, even though every single one started from a white piece of paper. For this tie dye event, students were able to choose from several different patterns, and colors. Every shirt started out as a plain white t-shirt, but by the end, we all had a different, unique shirt. This event really focused on the differences that we all have, but yet we can all come together and connect in different ways. RETHINK, RELAX, REFOCUS… Our Diversity AND Aevidum club have both been teaming together to bring our school community closer together. Rethink, Relax and Refocus are our main objectives while holding our several events. When we RETHINK, we can take a step back, and realize differences are not a bad thing. All of our differences in character, biases, and backgrounds are all positive attributes that we can think about to connect with others. When we RELAX, we forget about all of the negativity in our life, and we focus on the positive parts. Lastly, we REFOCUS and realize that we are all different in good ways, and those ways make us all unique and give our community its character!

On March 24, seniors used the early dismissal to present their Senior Research project to a panel of teachers. All graduating seniors must select a topic of their choice, research it, and develop a 10-15 minute presentation. The topics range from academic subjects to community service to internships. Students at the STC don’t have to present at the home school, since their portfolio in their respective shop counts towards that requirement. The Senior Research Project is a graduation requirement and has been a tradition at Schuylkill Haven Area High School for decades. The students did a great job as they accomplished yet another milestone on their journey.

Mrs. Moyer’s American Cultures I classes recently studied westward American expansion via the Oregon Trail. Students researched locations of landmarks and rest stops along the trail in addition to what this grueling trip would have entailed for the settlers taking it. Students then created maps of a possible trip on the trail. They wrote journal entries to accompany their map as if they traveled the trail themselves. Multiple students showcased their artistic talents by hand-sewing pages into hard covers or booklets along with making leather covers for their journals.

The High School Art club worked really hard to get this field trip to happen and thanks to everyone who supported art club over the last few months with buying Roman Delight tickets, handmade pins, or anything else, it paid off. The High School Art Club went to the Vincent Van Gogh Immersive Experience at the Tower Theater and the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Friday November 18th for an art experience unlike anything they have seen before.
