In 5th Grade ELA, we are currently reading the nonfiction story The Inventor’s Secret: What Thomas Edison Told Henry Ford. Today, students participated in an Invention Gallery Walk! They explored several inventions from the past and worked to determine what each invention was, what problem it was designed to solve, and how we use it—or something similar—today. It was a fun, hands-on way for students to connect what we are learning in our nonfiction text to real-world inventions and their impact on our lives.

Our Hurricane Cabinet needs some help with supplies. This Friday happens to be Dolly Parton Day (9/25). In the generous spirit of Dolly, we’re asking students to bring in at least one nonperishable item into their homeroom. Boxes will be provided. The HR that collects the most items will win a sweet treat from Mrs. McGinty.

This is already a dress down day for faculty. If you have not prepaid, you can either pay cash or bring in a nonperishable item. Payment for this date will go towards purchasing more items for the Hurricane Cabinet.

Students and faculty are encouraged to dress in a western/country theme.

Sixth grade science teacher Nancy Geiger and paraprofessional Sue Greenawalt were our in-house scientists on Friday. Students conducted an experiment using honey, grapes, dyed water, and popcorn. Welcome to their “Density Hotel!”

☀️ Who says you need nighttime to glow? ✨

The Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School gym was shining bright yesterday during our PBIS Glow Dance! Students spent the day dancing, laughing, glowing, and making memories with friends while celebrating positive behavior the Hurricane way. 💙💛

From neon colors and glowing accessories to nonstop energy on the dance floor, the afternoon was filled with fun and school spirit from start to finish!

Thank you to everyone who helped make the event a glowing success — our students definitely brought the light! 🌟

Hello to all families of incoming 8th graders for the 2026–2027 school year!

I’ve been getting quite a few questions about summer math work, so I wanted to share an update early. There will NOT be a summer math packet for students entering 8th grade.

Instead of assigning worksheets, I’d much rather encourage students to stay mentally active in simple, meaningful ways throughout the summer. Just 10–15 minutes a day of practicing basic skills can make a huge difference when school starts again!

One of the best things students can practice is:
• Multiplication facts
• Adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers

When these skills become automatic, students are able to focus more on problem-solving and higher-level math concepts during the school year.

Here are two easy games families can play together to keep math skills sharp:

🎲 Race to Zero
Roll dice or flip two cards and assign positive/negative values. Players decide whether to add or subtract their product to get as close to zero as possible. This is a fun way to build understanding of integers and absolute value.

🃏 Integer War
Use a deck of cards (remove face cards and keep Aces as 1). Red cards are negative numbers, and black cards are positive numbers. Players flip two cards and either add, subtract, or multiply them. The first person to correctly solve the problem wins the round!

And lastly… READ!
Yes — even the math teacher is encouraging reading! Strong reading skills help students tremendously in math, especially with word problems. Reading just 15–20 minutes a day can expose students to thousands of new vocabulary words each year and greatly improve comprehension skills.

Today, our Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School students proved that even the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest impact. 💙💛

The 2026 Mini-THON at Rotary Field was filled with energy, smiles, teamwork, and a whole lot of heart — all for an incredible cause. Through games, activities, dancing, and fundraising efforts, our students, staff, and community came together to raise an amazing $13,175.72 for Four Diamonds! 🎗️

Every dollar raised helps support children and families battling pediatric cancer, reminding us what it truly means to stand together For The Kids.

We are so proud of everyone who helped make today unforgettable. Thank you to our students, advisors, volunteers, staff, families, and community supporters for showing what Hurricane pride is all about.

🧪🔬 Hands-On Science in Action! 🐸

Mr. Pearson’s 7th Grade Science students are diving into their study of anatomy—literally! This week, classrooms turned into labs as students took part in frog dissections, getting an up-close look at the complex systems that keep living organisms functioning.

From identifying organs to making real-world connections, this experience brings science to life in a way textbooks simply can’t match. It’s not every day you get to explore biology in such a ribbiting way!

Great work to our students for their focus, curiosity, and willingness to jump right in! 👏

This afternoon and most likely for the remainder of the week -
MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL BUS 12 students will go home with Bus 13 Students.
This could cause delays tp arrival home times during afternoon runs.
