Last week the Zwerling Auditorium was filled with the sounds of the 49th Annual Schuylkill County Band. Under the direction of Ms. Carole Lutte students from across the county put on a fabulous concert. A special congratulations for Mr. Brian Shughart on being this years inductee into our Schuylkill County Band Director Hall of Fame.
A huge thank you to the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation for helping to provide funding along with the Schuylkill Haven Area School District!

Anatomy and Physiology Honors students recently investigated the ruminant digestive tract of a sheep (multiple stomach compartments like cows, deer, goats, among others) in comparison to that of a monogastric digestive system of a pig (one stomach compartment like humans, dogs, chickens, among others) in their Digestive System studies in Mrs. Schwenk's course.

🏹 Schuylkill Haven Archery Shines at Line Mountain! 🎯
What a way to wrap up the qualifying season! Anna Donatti, Sage Oliver, Makayla Palulis, and Lucas Bender all shot personal bests at Saturday’s competition, with every archer breaking 200 for the first time this season.
Lucas Bender led the Haven boys, while Makayla Palulis was the top female, shattering her previous best by nearly 50 points!
From the first practice to the final arrow, this group showed dedication and steady improvement every week. It’s bittersweet that this was the last qualifier before states, but their hard work speaks for itself!
Great job, Canes! 💙🏹💛

"Anything that can go wrong will" is the mantra of our PA Fish And Boat Commission Trout in the Classroom (PA TIC) Program this year From a chiller that stopped working and which is absolutely essential in maintaining a coldwater environment, to the aquarium draining down about 15 gallons overnight below the egg baskets from a faulty hose spraying water everywhere, to a massive die-off within hours after officers released the trout from the baskets in to the aquarium, for which is still undetermined with input from the PFBC (maybe an infection? or maybe the power head creating a pocket of toxic water that had settled at the bottom of the tank?), we are now having some calmness (despite one or two acts of cannibalism), and we are certainly hoping that it stays that way for the duration of their time with us. Although beyond stressful and frustrating, it has been a great educational lesson about the survival of the fittest.
Photos of a second shipment of and introduction of more eggs due to the water loss, then photos of what appear to be healthy sac fry and then developed in to swim-up fry in the baskets, followed by their release into the aquarium before the unexplained hours later die-off, and then another introduction of some more fingerlings due to the die-off issues can be seen with the help of the Trout Committee Officers. About 50 Trout Committee students are now also assisting on a daily schedule of trout care and testing chemical levels, until the trout are released in late April at our annual Trout Release / Environment Day. Anyone is welcome to stop in at Mrs. Schwenk's room to view the trout, which seem to be doing well now, fingers crossed!
